Eric Roberts of pellontyres and Autocentre gives simple advice about servicing your car or van after our the last cold and snowy winter.
Now is the time to think about having your car serviced, even in these hard times it will pay you to look after your car by having it serviced.
This winter as been especially hard on your car, the really bad days have probably been forgotten now that we are feeling a bit of warm sun on our backs and the spring flowers are in bloom.
But your car took some heavy wear and tear on those heavy snowy, freezing nights. Your battery, your braking system, your clutch and other less thought of items such as oil viscosity. When your engine is running on frozen oil there is an increase in wear and tear on your engine and it is important to re-new the oil as soon as the air temperature starts to improve.
Also the effect that Winter has on your clutch and tyres , skidding on icy surfaces causes large amounts of premature wear on both these components, a good service will pick up all these points.

Your service should be carried out at a reputable service centre, many motorists know of a good service centre and often pass this information on to their friends and family.
If you are shopping around for prices, I would advise to go for the middle range price and make sure that the price includes parts and labour. It is also a good idea to ask the garage/service centre to retain your old parts for examination, although many reputable centres will do this automatically . The cost of your service will also be effected by the size of your car engine, usually the prices are split into three, small, medium and large engines.
This is common sense really as the larger the car , the larger the parts, thus the costlier the service.
I always recommend that motorists should try and use garage that may be part of a larger trade group, these organisation often offer better guarantees , and a more sounder peace of mind, although you cannot beat word of mouth recommendation. I often give the analogy of buying a cheap tyre, they look good but never last as long as a premium tyre.

Also with many motorists strapped for cash, I would advice that the least thing you do is to change your engine oil, or have your brakes checked, when you can afford have your car fully serviced.
If your car battery starts letting you down, change it as son as possible . Most modern cars have on board computers, and can be damaged without the correct battery voltage. Your replacement battery should be the best that you can afford, but there are many car batteries for sale at reasonable prices. Try and buy a good quality maintenance free battery with a three year warranty at a reasonable price, these can be found on most good web sites, with next day delivery. I hope this is valuable information to you and saves you money on the cost of motoring.
